The Mad River Food Service Department provides your child with the fuel to power the learning engine. We encourage every child to participate in the school breakfast and lunch programs. We strive to provide well-balanced, well-prepared, convenient meals, as well as ala carte snacks.
Although the district keeps meal prices as low as possible, families who need assistance may be able to obtain partial or complete meal subsidies by applying to the federal school lunch program which oversees these services. An application is included for every family in their back-to-school information packet. You must fill out a new application every school year in order to be eligible; last year’s eligibility is valid until September 23, 2011.
Parents may pre-pay for meals so that students do not need to carry money to school each day. All schools use an electronic point-of-sale system that keeps a running balance; this can be used for breakfast, lunch and ala carte purchases. Parents can deposit any sum of money into the accounts to cover the cost of lunches and snacks purchased by their children. When the student goes through the line, their purchases are recorded on the cash register and the amount of the purchase is deducted from the student’s account. Elementary students have lunch cards which are kept at school and scanned daily. Middle school and high school students enter their ID number into a keypad which brings up their account. Detailed account activity reports may be generated at anytime during the school year by contacting the Food Service Department (259-6601).
