Information Technologies
The Junior year in the Information Technology (IT) class introduces you to the fundamentals of computing, particularly with respect to personal computer (PC) hardware, software, the World Wide Web, and web page design. You will learn skills necessary to implement and support PC’s, software and Microsoft Office applications. In addition, you will develop an in-depth understanding of why computers are essential components in the business world and society; focus on the computer as a productivity tool; and present strategies for purchasing, installing, and maintaining a personal computer system. Your class is web enhanced to provide you with an integrated learning tool and to offer you the latest technology information. 

 

Senior Year:

Your senior year will introduce you to content related to networking, data communications, and Internet technologies while preparing you for broad-based, vendor–independent certifications. This course covers a wide range of material about the Internet, Networking, and Data Communications. From using the Internet to demonstrating how the Internet works, using different Internet protocols, the Internet infrastructure, security, and e-commerce. It not only introduces a variety of concepts, but also discusses in-depth the most significant aspects of Internet, such as the OSI model of networking. In addition to explaining concepts, the course uses a multitude of real world examples of networking issues from a professional’s standpoint, making it a practical preparation for the real world.

 

Career Opportunities

I.T. offers many different pathways. This flexibility allows you to focus on your area of interest. During our time together you will be introduced to all major pathways of I.T.; this will provide you with a better understanding of I.T. as a whole. Depending upon the path you choose you can have a successful career in any of the following specialties:

 

  • Software related pathway: Careers include, software technician, data entry, software application specialist, software support technician (help desk).
  • Hardware related pathway: Careers include, hardware technician, hardware support (help desk), computer hardware engineer.
  • Network related pathway: Careers include, network technician, network administrator, network engineer.
  • Web based related pathway: Careers include, web designer, web master, graphics designer.

Although the primary emphasis of the Tech Prep program is IT related, this course will provide you with a technology foundation and skillset that is transferable to any career field
