All four qualified through a progression of competitive events at the region and state levels. The four students were: Christian Addison, Austin Bauer, Kyle Mildebrandt, and Brandon Parrott. A fifth, Jason Norwood, also qualified for Nationals but was unable to attend when the conference was postponed in May due to the swine flu scare in Texas.
The Mad River School District is pleased to announce that two students, Kyle Mildebrandt and Brandon Parrott, both received top 10 awards at Nationals, making this the first time that two Stebbins students were recognized with a prestigious top 10 award in the same year. Kyle competed in Fundamental Accounting and Brandon competed in Advanced Spreadsheet Applications.
The five students that qualified this year, represents the second most in school history. Typically, students compete against 10 – 30 contestants in their respective events at the region level, and only the top person in a judged event, or top two in a tested event, moves on to state. There, they compete against the winners from the 18 regions in Ohio’s BPA, where the top five in a tested event and top two in a judged event move on to Nationals. Using Kyle as an example, he competed against 30 students at the region level and won that, 36 at the state level and won that, and finished top 10 out of 60+ at Nationals.
