The Green Team Info:
In case you were wondering...We have started our own chapter of Roots and Shoots and it is called The Green Team.
The Green Team is a new club that we started at Mad River Middle School in 2011. Under the Roots and Shoots guidelines, we have three goals that we need to meet each year:
1. Help People
2. Help Animals
3. Help The Environment
The club is open to any Mad River Middle School student willing to participate in service learning and we open our enrollment each September.
What is Roots & Shoots?
Roots and Shoots is the Jane Goodall Institute's community-based environmental and humanitarian program for youth. Roots & Shoots groups plan and participate in service learning projects showing care and concern for animals, the environment and the human community.
Who is Jane Goodall?
Jane Goodall is a British primatologist, ethnologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace. Considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, Goodall is best known for her 45-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues.Mission:
The Roots & Shoots mission is to foster respect and compassion for all living things, promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and inspire each individual to take action, to make the world a better place for animals, the environment, and the human community.
The Vision for Roots and Shoots at Mad River Middle School:
The chapter of Roots and shoots here in Riverside has a goal of helping people, wildlife, and the environment. Through various activities throughout the school year we will complete service learning projects as a team of concerned citizens that want to make a difference. If you have any activities that you would like our groups involvement in; please contact the school and we would be happy to consider it.
