Over the past 25 years, Beverly Gardens Elementary has become my home away from home. I started teaching Kindergarten at BG in 1988 (after spending one year at Brantwood). Then, after many years of teaching the younger children, I taught 4th grade for several years. Even though I enjoyed teaching the older students, my true passion is working with first graders. Since I majored in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education K-8, I was anxious to move back to the younger grades. I have spent more than half of my teaching career teaching the first grade, and I can't imagine being any happier. I love teaching children how to read and write, and seeing their faces light up when they can read a book on their own or share a story they have published in Writer's Workshop. I enjoy making art and craft projects with my class, and being creative. I earned my Bachelor's Degree at Bowling Green State University in 1982. Over the past 20+ years, I have taken graduate courses from UD to upgrade my teaching license. I have one daughter and son-in-law who are happily married and live in the area with their family. I also have one grandson who just celebrated his 3rd birthday. He has brought me so much happiness and joy the past few years! I just love being his "Nana." He had me wrapped around his little finger from the day he was born. I enjoy spending my days off and weekends with my family and friends. I love babysitting my grandson and watching him learn and grow. Every time I hear, "Hi Nana," my heart just melts. I also enjoy being outdoors and working around the house. I love gardening, swimming, going to the beach, shopping, or teaching kids. I have taught 28 years in the public schools, and 3 years teaching preschool. I started my teaching career in Centerville teaching Pre-Kindergarten. Then, I taught first grade for 2 years in Trotwood, before coming to Mad River Local Schools. I do not plan on retiring for several more years, and I hope God will continue to bless me with good health and lots of energy. :) I love teaching....and BG has become my second family.
