2026-2027 Open Enrollment Process

Applications available may 4-15, 2026. in person only.

Ohio law, along with the Mad River Board of Education board policy, allows parents/guardians to enroll their children in the Mad River School District rather than their district of residence by completing an open enrollment application and being approved by the incoming district.

Open enrollment applications are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, per the Mad River Local School Board Policy, and an application is required each school year.

This is an application process and not an official enrollment into the Mad River School District. Applications are in person only and they are not available online for download. Applications submitted via our OneView online enrollment portal will be deleted. No exceptions.


Open Enrollment Contingent Applications will be available in person only for pick up and submission from May 4–15, 2026.

Location: Student Services Office, 801 Old Harshman Rd 

Office Hours: 

  • 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.  

  • 1:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m. 

Applications will not be available before Monday, May 4. 
This step does not enroll your student. It only begins the application process. 


Kindergarten Applicants

If your child is entering public school for the first time, you must complete your home district’s kindergarten procedures. The Mad River Open Enrollment application does not replace enrollment at your home district. 


Submit Application In Person Only

Applications will not be accepted through email, fax, mail, or the OneView Online Enrollment Portal. Applications must be submitted directly to the Student Services Office. No exceptions. 


Contingent Acceptance Notification (Starting June 2026) 

Beginning in June, based on the Mad River Local Schools Open Enrollment Policies/Procedures, a Contingent Acceptance Notification Letter will be mailed to prospective applicants via regular mail.  

The date and location to return the items on the OPEN ENROLLMENT CHECKLIST will be provided in the Contingent Acceptance Notification Letter.  

Grades 1-12 will be notified beginning June 5, 2026. Kindergarten will be notified before July 1, 2026.

We highly recommend obtaining the checklist items from your home district before they close for the summer.


Final Review

Once the checklist items have been returned, the application will be processed through a final review to determine if the student’s application meets all required criteria per the Mad River Local Schools Open Enrollment Policies and Procedures. If your student is approved via the final review, you will be instructed to follow our registration process.

If the required criteria are not met, the application will be denied. Incomplete Contingent Applications will not be processed for a final review. If your student is denied due to limited space in a specific grade level, your student will be placed on a waitlist per the Open Enrollment Policies and Procedures. 

 


Additional Details

  • Open Enrollment is not available for preschool students.  
  • Conditional applications may continue to be taken from May 18 - July 31.  However, applications will only be acted upon based on classroom space and course availability.
  • High school students who transfer districts through open enrollment must follow the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) rules for participating on athletic teams. Typically, athletic eligibility is determined by the school in which the student is attending during their ninth-grade year. OHSAA rules for transfer and athletic eligibility are very specific and must be followed by law.
  • Once accepted, families may contact the district’s Transportation Department regarding availability on existing bus routes.
