Mad River’s program focuses on providing children with a successful first-school experience. The core and essential documents of the Early Childhood Program are explicit in supporting student achievement.

MRECC centers on providing children and families with a successful first-school experience. The core and essential documents of the Early Childhood Program are explicit and intentional in supporting improved student achievement. Teachers use a variety of strategies to encompass the diverse needs of children. In our inclusive classrooms, typically developing preschoolers learn and play with students in a nurturing, language-enriched environment. All sessions provide a structured learning environment with a focus on play, social skills, language development, fine/gross motor, and pre-readiness academic skills. All students are active learners in a caring and inviting environment. Children with disabilities are enrolled according to their needs as determined by the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Our goal is to lay a solid foundation of learning via lab-structured activities in the academic areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our preschool is a welcoming, educational, open communication, and energetic environment. Our playground consists of a learning lab area to play while building social skills. We love to take walks around our garden while learning about nature. Our outside learning lab allows children to explore their creative minds while being driven by problem-solving, discovery, and exploratory learning.

    Class Experiences

Busy days filled with active learning activities, creative projects, and social development abound at Mad River’s Early Childhood Center. Learning centers around high-interest themes to build thinking skills and academic knowledge while instilling social confidence. Each fun-filled day includes whole and small group activities, literacy development, stories, fine and gross motor development, and snacks.

    Learning Experiences and Field Trips

The community plays an active role in enriching the Mad River Early Childhood program with field trips and school visits throughout the year. Students visit a farm to pick pumpkins. The fire department visits with a rescue vehicle each year to demonstrate fire safety. In addition to a family field trip to the library, the Dayton librarian visits to share stories, songs, and rhymes with students each month. In-school programs from the Boonshoft, “Exhibits to Go”, entertain while promoting an interest in science. Parents are encouraged to participate in class activities, volunteer for special days, and are invited to share their talents with the school.

    Positive Behavior System

The entire MRECC staff focuses on student success and recognizing positive behavior. Students work towards exciting behavior rewards each month as they learn positive social skills.
