Welcome to our Military Families!

  • Welcome

    Dear Wright-Patterson Families and Students,

The Mad River School District would like to welcome you to our community.

The school district understands the challenges of military children and their families. We recognize the challenges our military families face due to assignment changes and deployments. Our district is honored to serve our military families and committed to ensuring a smooth start for your child as you relocate to the Dayton area.

It is our goal to help create a smooth transition for incoming students by providing all of the information you need. Most military children move every 2.9 years and can attend up to nine different schools by graduation. Consistency and retention of educational goals is a primary goal for the District and Virginia Stevenson Elementary.

Principals, school counselors, and teachers each know their military-connected students. As a school district, we are committed to serving every student with excellence. Mad River Local Schools works closely with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to provide transitioning and current military families with local and national resources ensuring student success.

Wright-Patt’s School Liaison Office (SLO) helps parents ease the transition of the mobile military lifestyle and can assist prior to your PCS, upon arrival, while at your installation and when you prepare to depart for your next duty station.  They specialize in serving military families with K-12 school age children and are able to provide information about the local school systems and community. The SLO will support parents and school districts with the Interstate Compact for the Education of Military Students interpretation, information on schools and boundaries, Home School, Deployment Support, provide School and Community Outreach partnerships.  These military dependent education professionals serve as a link between military families and all surrounding school districts ensuring maximum educational opportunities for academic success.  The School Liaison Officer is located in the Airman & Family Readiness Center in Room 239, Building 2, Area A. Janet Wynn helps promote communication between local K-12 schools. Wright-Patterson AFB School Liaison Officer can be reached by their main phone number at (937) 656-0942. The listed DSN line is 312-986-0942. Visit the Wright-Patterson AFB School Liaison Officer website by clicking here.
