988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
In 2020, Congress designated the new 988 code to be operated through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. In July 2022, the new 988 dialing code became live and available to the public. The fact sheets below were created by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
