Mad River Retired Employee Organization

History
On Valentine's Day, 1995, a group of retired employees of the Mad River Local School District met at the home of Eula Linkous. At that gathering, they discussed the concept of an organization that would serve each and every employee who retires from Mad River Local Schools or who has worked for the Mad River district for a minimum of five years.
The group agreed to brainstorm and research the establishment of this organization. One year later, on Valentine's Day, 1996, a large group of retired teachers and school support staff met in the cafeteria of Stebbins High School and officially established the Mad River Retired Employee Organization (MRREO).
Selected to serve as charter officers of MRREO were: Duane Bennet, President; Joyce Carroll, Vice President; and Cel Andzik-Grewe, Treasurer. Others forming the original board were Ann Berry, Bonnie Fee, Dottie Haskell, Margaret Lapp, Ron McCray, Sandra Post, Martha Puterbaugh and Carolyn Tipps.
Membership
MRREO membership is open to any classified or certified retiree or long-term employee (5 years or more) of the Mad River Local School District. The first year of membership is free upon retirement. Yearly and life memberhsips are available thereafter.
Objectives
- To remain connected to current personnel, students, and events in the school district
- To encourage Stebbins seniors to pursue higher education
- To maintain and renew friendships with former coworkers
- To keep members informed about matters relating to retirement benefits
Activities
- Annual awarding of the MRREO scholarship to a graduating Stebbins senior who is a child or grandchild of a current or retired district employee
- Regular fall, winter, and spring luncheons
- Presentations by STRS and SERS experts in areas relating to retirement benefits
- Provide support to the district for projects and activities as requested
